We publish patterns made with Estako yarn. You are paid a figure we agree with you, in your own currency, on every single sale, and you keep the copyright. If that sounds like something you want to do, tell us a little about your work.
We read everything that comes in. If it looks like a fit we write back and we talk about a specific pattern, a specific yarn and what you would be paid, before anything is agreed.
How the programme works
What you are paid
We agree a figure with you before you start, in your own currency, and that is what you receive on every sale. It does not move with the buyer's country, with what we price the pattern at, or with any discount we happen to be running. Estako carries the difference.
You keep the copyright, and there is no exclusivity. You can go on selling the same pattern on your own site, on Ravelry, on Etsy, anywhere.
The yarn
We send you the yarn. You pay nothing for it: not the yarn, not the shipping, not the duties. You choose the base and the colours, we agree how much before anything ships, and the yarn is yours to keep.
The honest other half of that: if the work never arrives you owe us nothing, but we will not send a second package. One package is open at a time. We would rather say this now than have you find it in a document later.
It does not have to be a new design
If you already have a pattern you are fond of, reworking it in one of our yarns counts. You would redo the gauge and the skein counts for the new base, so it is not a copy and paste, but the design itself is done. The original stays yours and you go on selling it exactly as you do now.
What you deliver
- The pattern, written on the Estako yarn we agreed, with a size to skein table: how many whole skeins each size takes, in each colour.
- The finished object and your photographs of it.
- The PDF in our template.
Garment patterns are graded to at least a 60 inch (152 cm) bust before ease. Nothing in the pattern, the charts or the images may be produced by generative AI.
How long you have
Eight weeks from the day your yarn order goes in, with three points along the way: gauge confirmed by week two, finished object and draft pattern by week five, final photos and the finished PDF by week eight. If life gets in the way, tell us. We would rather move a date than lose the pattern.
The pattern is yours, and so is the responsibility
You warrant that the pattern is correct: sizes consistent, the gauge matching the label of the yarn it is written for, the skein counts reflecting what the work really takes, and the instructions and charts free of error. We do not technically edit your pattern and we do not tell anyone that we have checked it. Your name is on it.
One number deserves a second look: the skeins. Whatever you state is what our shop tells a maker to buy, so a wrong figure sends someone home with too little yarn. Before publishing we run an automatic check comparing your stated gauge and skein counts against that yarn's own figures. It is a machine sanity check, not an edit, and it does not make the pattern our responsibility. If something looks wrong we write down what and why, and you fix it and send it back.
After it goes live
If an error turns up later, you correct it at your own cost and send a corrected PDF within fourteen days, and we email it to everyone who already bought the pattern. We hold the delivery records to be able to do that, and we promise the maker exactly this when they buy.
We use your photographs to sell your pattern and the yarn it is written for. That right is set out in the agreement, so read that section rather than taking our word for it here.
You can also earn on the yarn
When we invite you, the two programmes come together: alongside the pattern shop you join the Estako Creator Program, which pays commission on yarn bought through your own link. You are never obliged to share a link. The pattern itself earns no commission, because the whole of it is already yours.
Everything above is the short version. The binding text is the programme terms and the designer agreement, and you see both in full, and accept them, before anything starts.
