Common questions

Is Estako Royal Cotton OEKO-TEX® certified and suitable for baby projects?

Yes. Royal Cotton is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, independently tested and free from harmful substances. As a breathable 100% cotton with crisp stitch definition, it is a popular choice for baby clothing and soft accessories.

What is mercerized Giza cotton and why does it matter?

Royal Cotton is 100% mercerized Giza cotton, an extra-long-staple Egyptian-origin fibre treated under tension. Mercerization adds strength and a soft sheen, locks in vivid color, and gives crisp stitch definition, which is why it holds up wash after wash.

Is Royal Cotton good for granny squares and market bags?

Yes. The crisp stitch definition keeps geometric patterns sharp, and the added fibre strength from mercerization helps a market bag hold its shape without stretching. It is a favourite for granny squares, totes, amigurumi and fine lacework.

What weight is Royal Cotton and what hook should I use?

Royal Cotton is labelled #1 Super Fine and works beautifully with a 2.5 to 3.5 mm hook or 2 to 3 mm needles for crisp, refined stitches. For a softer, lighter drape you can size up a hook and check your gauge with a small swatch.

How do I keep the colours from fading?

Machine wash cool on a gentle cycle and lay flat to dry. Because the cotton is mercerized, the dye is locked into the fibre, so colours stay vivid and color-fast far better than untreated cotton.
