Designer Program Terms

Version 2026-08-13

These are the terms of the program you are joining. They are short on purpose. If we work together, a full designer agreement is signed separately at onboarding, once we have agreed the pattern, the yarn, the price and your fee. Accepting these terms is not that signature and does not commit either of us to a pattern.

How the program works

You design a knitting or crochet pattern using Estako yarn. We publish it in our shop and sell it as a paid pattern. You keep the copyright in your pattern. We publish and sell it under a licence from you, and we grant each buyer a standard buyer licence, which you can read at estakoyarns.com/pages/pattern-licence.

What you are paid

You are paid from pattern sales, and only from pattern sales. There is no fee for designing and no payment up front. The whole amount we actually collect for your pattern goes to you. If a buyer pays eight dollars for it, you earn eight dollars, less only sales tax where the displayed price includes it. We do not deduct payment fees, platform fees, currency conversion, advertising or shipping, and we do not deduct the cost of yarn. Our side of the deal is the yarn people buy alongside your pattern.

Discount codes do not apply to patterns, precisely because a code would come out of your pay rather than ours. We may run our own promotion of up to twenty percent, for up to thirty consecutive days, and anything deeper or longer needs your written agreement.

Yarn for making the sample

You order the yarn from our shop and pay for it in the normal way. When you deliver the pattern, the finished piece and your photographs, and the pattern passes review, we reimburse that order in full. The yarn stays with you. If the work is not delivered, the order is not reimbursed and you keep the yarn you bought.

Review before publishing

Every pattern is technically reviewed before it goes live. Sizing, gauge against the yarn label, how much yarn each size really needs, and errata. Nothing is published without passing. If something needs correcting, we tell you what and you get a chance to fix it.

Your photographs

We ask for a licence to use the photographs you send us: worldwide, for as long as we sell the pattern, including in paid advertising. We credit you by name on the pattern page and inside the pattern file. We may crop, resize, adjust colour, convert formats, remove backgrounds, overlay text and adapt images for ads. We will not edit an image in a way that misrepresents your work or suggests you endorsed something you did not.

In some countries an author's moral rights cannot be signed away. Where that is so, they stay yours, and the permissions above are the specific uses you are agreeing to rather than a blanket waiver.

Being paid, and tax

We pay from the United States, in dollars, by KUME INC. You tell us the account to pay. Your own tax position in your own country is yours to handle, and we do not advise on it. Where the law puts a withholding or reporting duty on us, that duty is ours and we carry it.

Before we can pay you we will ask for the tax form your status requires, which is a W-9 if you are a US person and a W-8BEN if you are not.

What we do with your information

We collect what you type into the form: your name, your email address, your country, the links you choose to give us, and anything you write in the message box. We record which version of these terms you accepted and when. We use all of it to consider your application, to reply to you, and to run the program if we work together. Estako Yarns is operated by KUME INC, a Wyoming corporation in the United States, and our team also works from Turkiye, so your information is handled in both places and by the services we use to run the shop, send email and process payments.

If we accept you, we keep the records of what we owed you and paid you for as long as tax and accounting law requires. If we do not, we keep your application while we still need it to explain that decision, and you can ask us to delete it sooner.

You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. Write to info@estakoyarns.com and we will take care of it. If you are in the EU or the UK, you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.

Ending it

Either of us can stop. If a pattern is already published, you keep the copyright, we stop selling it, and anything you have earned is still paid. Makers who already bought it keep the licence they were given.

Questions before you accept

Write to info@estakoyarns.com. We would rather answer a question now than have you agree to something you were unsure about.
