Star-DK
Description
A light, warm DK-weight yarn in a 75% acrylic, 25% wool blend. It is OEKO-TEX® certified, holds its shape well, and gives you 306 yards per 100 g ball for garments that need real length.
Estako Star-DK is the lighter sister of Star-Worsted. Same acrylic and wool blend, same soft hand, spun finer so the fabric stays breathable and the stitch pattern stays visible. The smooth, even ply glides on hooks and needles for clean stitch definition in cables, lace panels and colorwork.
Best for
- Sweaters, cardigans and vests
- Shawls, wraps and lightweight scarves
- Baby cardigans and christening pieces

Common questions
What is the difference between Star-DK and Star-Worsted?
Same 75% acrylic and 25% wool blend, same 100 g ball, different thickness. Star-DK is #3 DK with 306 yards and works on 3.5 to 4.5 mm needles. Star-Worsted is #4 Worsted with 186 yards and works on 4.5 to 5.5 mm needles. Choose Star-DK when you want a lighter garment with more drape, Star-Worsted when you want faster, warmer, chunkier fabric.
Is Estako Star-DK OEKO-TEX® certified?
Yes. Star-DK is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, independently tested and free from harmful substances.
What is Star-DK made of?
Star-DK is a 75% acrylic and 25% wool blend. The wool adds warmth and structure so stitches stay crisp, while the acrylic keeps it soft, durable and easy to care for.
My pattern calls for DK (#3) yarn. Is Star-DK a match?
Yes. Star-DK is #3 DK in both our catalog and the industry standard, worked with a 3.5 to 4 mm hook or 3.5 to 4.5 mm needles. The ball band gauge is 19 stitches and 28 rows to 10 x 10 cm. If you want the same weight in pure acrylic instead of a wool blend, see DailyKnit-DK.
How do I wash Star-DK?
As a wool blend, machine wash cold on a gentle cycle or hand wash, then lay flat to dry and reshape while damp. Avoid wringing and direct ironing.
