Care & certification
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and lay flat to dry to keep the chenille pile full. Do not iron directly. A light brush restores the plush texture after washing.

Common questions
Is Estako Velvet OEKO-TEX® certified and suitable for baby projects?
Yes. Every batch of Velvet is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, independently tested and free from harmful substances, and it is a popular pick for amigurumi plush toys given as baby gifts. Always supervise infant use of small parts such as safety eyes.
My pattern calls for worsted (#4) yarn, but Velvet is labelled #6. Can I still use it?
Velvet is a #6 Super Bulky chenille; our product guide recommends a 4.5 mm hook or 6.5 mm knitting needles, and tight amigurumi is usually worked at about 4 mm. For a pattern written for a smooth worsted #4, the direct match is Estako Star-Worsted, which is #4 in both our catalog and the industry standard. Velvet can stand in for gauge-forgiving amigurumi patterns if you work it tightly and check your gauge with a small swatch.
What is the difference between Velvet and Velvet XL?
Both are 100% polyester chenille with the same soft hand-feel and OEKO-TEX® certification. Velvet is the finer strand at 132 yards per 100 g, suited to detailed amigurumi worked tightly at about a 4 mm hook. Velvet XL is much thicker at 55 yards per 100 g with a 9 mm hook, better suited to large plush, throws and chunky projects.
How do I wash chenille without flattening the pile?
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle inside a garment bag, then lay flat to dry. Press gently between two towels to remove water rather than wringing, and fluff the pile with your fingers once dry. Avoid direct ironing and machine drying, which flatten the velvet pile.
Does chenille yarn worm or shed?
Worming, where the strand twists on itself, can happen with any chenille if it is worked too loosely, so keep an even, slightly firm tension with a matching hook size. Velvet is spun for a smooth, uniform stitch, and staying close to the recommended hook keeps the fabric neat.
